I Went To A Laughter Club

Image found here. Laughter. They say it's the best medicine. I think they are right.

This morning I went with my sister and a friend to a Laughter Club. What is that, you ask? It is basically a group of people getting together with the intention of laughing, and laugh we did! At first I was a bit apprehensive, wouldn't it be weird to go up to a group of strangers and just laugh together. But after no more than about a minute we were off and laughing and my worries were gone.

Now, just to clarify, there is a Laughter Leader, who leads you through the exercises. Yes, exercises, most of which involve acting like a child, occasionally speaking gobbldy-goop and using your imagination. But hell, it was fun and by the end I was literally bursting with happiness and energy. My sister and friend were equally impressed. And the benefits of laughter are nothing to laugh at (sorry for the pun):

  • Improves your digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems.
  • Relieves stress! You feel so relaxed afterwards.
  • Boost immunity.
  • Natural pain relief.
  • Releases feel good hormones and chemicals that reduce depression and anxiety.
  • Many more.... Just Google it!

I would highly encourage you to give Laughter Clubs a go, it may seem childish and ridiculous, but you cannot help enjoying the feeling of just letting go and having a laugh. Laughter Clubs were started by an Indian doctor who wanted to investigate the health benefits of laughter, so he went out with his wife and three friends and they laughed. The rest, as they say, is history. To find a Laughter Club near you, check this link to Laughter Clubs Australia, or Google for your nearest clubs. There are now over 6000 across the globe.

If you are not near a Laughter Club, do not despair, simply watch a good comedy, see a comedian live or just find something that really makes you laugh.

Keep happy, keep laughing, Erica xx
